IT MAY BE AN UNOFFICIAL EVENT, but its another official disaster for Tryon at the Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational. After a solid opening round 69, Ty strugges on Spyglass Hill and cards an ugly 86. The cut in this event comes after 3 days, so Ty's got another shot at getting it back together.

UPDATE: Did anyone catch what Tryon's 3rd round score was? I was travelling and since he missed the cut, they simply removed him from the scores list.

A HORRIBLY BAD FINAL ROUND OF 81 leaves Tryon ahead of only 4 players in the field and he fails to advance to the final round. With that finished, his only opportunities to play on the PGA Tour next year will be limited to any sponsors exemptions he may be extended.

However, because he finished inside the top 200 on the 2003 money list he is fully exempt on the Nationwide Tour.

A SECOND ROUND 78 ISN'T GOING to help Tryon much. Though scores in general were much higher than yesterday, so he only backed up 4 positions.

And the 3rd round of 74 backs him up another handful of spots. He realistically needs to shoot at least 66 tomorrow to have a chance at advancing.

THE 1ST ROUND OF TRYON'S ATTEMPT AT GETTING BACK on the PGA Tour is complete. He's currently in a tie for 38th place after a 1-over-par 73. He's not in horrible shape as he's only 2 shots outside the top 20 - which is roughly what he needs to advance to the final stage.

Also, The Golf Channel has a longish article on Ty's year and his prospects for the future.

IN AN ATTEMPT TO REGAIN HIS PGA TOUR CARD, Tryon is going thru Q-School yet again this year. He's currently scheduled to play in the 2nd stage of qualifying at Hombre GC in Panama City, Florida on November 12-15.

If he survives, the finals will be held December 3-8 in Winter Garden, Florida.

BY REMAINING INSIDE THE TOP 200 on the PGA Tour money list - he finished the year at 196th - Ty did at least manage to gain status as a member of the Nationwide Tour. Also Steve Elling of the Orlando Sentinel has a good year-end wrap-up story on Tryon's year.
