AN OPENING NINE HOLES OF 40 in the 2nd round at Disney has all but eliminated any chance Tryon had to make the cut this week. He's currently tied for dead last in the field - a position that is quite fitting considering his recent play and Tour status following today's round.
UPDATE: Ty finished up his 2nd round with a 4-over-par 76 that included only a single birdie. I'd say that qualifies as going out with a whimper.

CONSIDERING WHAT TRYON NEEDS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS WEEK (a top 2 finish) to keep his tour card, today's round very nearly drives the last nail into the coffin that has been his PGA Tour career to date. A ho-hum
even par 72 leaves him 9 shots behind the leader and a couple shots outside the cut line. He'll likely need a 68 (maybe a 69) to survive to the weekend.

THIS WEEK'S EVENT AT DISNEY WORLD will be Tryon's last of the 23 events he was given under his medical exemption to earn $515,445. Thru 22 events, he's earned just over $125,000; so he'll need either a win or a 2nd place finish to retain his card. From the sounds of it, I'd say
Ty has resigned himself to not playing the PGA Tour next year:
"I've already signed up for Q-school," he said.
"I'm just trying to play the best I can, and I am playing better right now. It's been a great year. I wouldn't trade it for anything. It wouldn't be that bad if I had to play the Buy.com Tour next year. There's a lot going on out here. This is a big atmosphere."

NOT MUCH OF AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE FINAL round of the
Greensboro Chrysler Classic. Ty finishes up with a 2-over-par 74 and finishes dead last among those making the weekend. For the week, Tryon had only a single 9-hole score that was below par.

ANOTHER DISASTER ROUND FOR TRYON. After finally making a cut, he goes out and
shoots 80 in the 3rd round of the Greensboro Chrysler Classic after being only 1 over par thru 12 holes. He's currently dead last among the players to make the cut.

A VERY SOLID 70 IN ROUND 2 OF THE
Greensboro Chrysler Classic has Tryon at 1-under-par for the event and
on the number for making the cut (currently). Ty had four birdies and no bogies over his last 10 holes to get into position to survive the cut.
UPDATE: The cut line moved around a bit during the day, but it ended up at 1-under, so Tryon gets to play the weekend!

A SLOW BUT NOT HORRIBLE START FOR TRYON in the first round of the Greensboro Chrysler Classic as he opens with a 1-over-par 73. Considering that he's consistently been near the bottom of the field after his recent first round scores, a 73 still gives him a chance to make the cut and pick up a check.
He's currently 1-under-par thru two holes of his 2nd round. Updates later.

IT CAN'T GET MUCH WORSE THAN THIS. TRYON goes 72-78 in rounds two and three and misses the cut in the
Las Vegas Invitational by a whopping 18 shots. He trails the leader by a massive 32 shots. Just how far back is he? With scoring as easy as it gets in Vegas, Ty could shoot 59 each of the next two days and still trail the leader by 20 strokes. Of course, that isn't going to happen since he won't get to play on the weekend, but it does give you some idea of how poor his play was this week relative to the rest of the field.
He again not only misses the cut, but finishes near the bottom of the field - ahead of only Tom Barranger and tied with the suddenly lowly David Duval.
For the three days, he made only 10 birdies total. The current leader - Steve Flesch - made 11 on the first day alone. Mix in 15 bogies and 2 doubles and you've got yourself a nice little disaster.

TRYON'S LUCK DOESN'T IMPROVE IN LAS VEGAS as he
opens with a 3-over-par 74 in the 1st round with 4 bogies and a double. He beat exactly two players - one of which is the Ian Baker-Duval ... err, David - and that hardly counts for anything.

THE 2ND ROUND WASN'T ALL THAT different from the 1st for Tryon. A 1-over-par 73
leaves him ahead of only 7 players and eight shots away from making the cut.

SIX BOGEYS AND A DOUBLE, WITH only 2 birdies on the card is not the way Tryon wanted to start the stretch run for this season. This has to be embarrassing for Ty - he hasn't broken 75 since July. He'll need something of a miracle to make the cut tomorrow.
The Clarion-Ledger also has an
article about Tryon. Here's the pertinant quotes:
"It's been tough. But you can't put a price tag on the experience I'm getting out here. I'm hitting it pretty well right now. I've been home practicing for 4 1/2 weeks, so I feel like my game is good. I've just got to put it together on the course.'
