EVEN MORE EVIDENCE THAT THE TY-PERBOLE has not yet ended. Tryon's top ten finish at the Bay Hill Invitational has spawned some more articles The USA Today has a story titled Tryon's game, form returning slowly and has a recent photo. The Augusta Chronicle has a personality piece about - of all things - Ty and his caddie (who happens to be from Augusta), along with yet another photo. And finally, the Dallas Star Telegram writes that Ty displays potential.

AFTER GETTING ALL THE WAY INTO 2ND PLACE ON Saturday behind Tiger Woods, Tryon faded back with a 74. But on Sunday, Ty made 4 birdies and only one bogey to finish with a 69. He's currently all the way up to 12th place. More updates later... UPDATE: With only the final group left to finish up, Tryon is going to get his first ever Top 10 Finish and a pretty good sized check. Golf Digest says that Ty gets a passing grade. The Orlando Sentinal headline is Tryon builds footing and had a couple of quotes from Ty: I laid up on par 5s two times, and I didn't really do anything aggressive," he said. "I just knocked it around on the green, and on the fairways and let it roll. And I didn't make any mental mistakes or anything." "I think it was better for me being a little more conservative," Tryon said.

TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF? BACK ON a golf course that he's intimately familiar with seems to be helping Ty get some confidence back. With only 2 holes remaining in his 2nd round (finishing up this morning due to bad weather Friday), Tryon is 5 under for the day and sitting in 7th place. UPDATE: Ty just finished up his 2nd round with two more pars, giving him a solid 67, 4-under for the tournament, and 7th place. He's finally gonna cash a check in 2003! UPDATE #2: Ty's 3rd round tee time is 12:42 pm Eastern time. He'll be playing with Robert Gamez (also a local Bay Hill guy), and Stephen Leaney.

BECAUSE OF SOME BAD WEATHER IN THE Orlando area, Ty's 1:30pm tee time for the 2nd round has been pushed back to the point that he may not even tee off today. More updates here later if he gets any holes in. UPDATE: Tryon managed to get in three holes today, made one birdie and is at even par for the tournament. The cut line is projected at +3, and I think it may go to +4 so he's looking pretty good.

TRYON HAS COMPLETED HIS FIRST round of play at Bay Hill with an all-too-familiar one over par 73 which currently has him in 30th place. Three early bogies put Ty in a hole that he almost managed to climb out of with a 1 under par back nine. Scores so far are quite high, so the cut may be 3 or 4 over par by the end of the day tomorrow. All in all, a decent start.

MORE EVIDENCE THAT THE 'TY-PERBOLE' HASN"T come to an end - the Miami Herald has an article about Tryon's struggle since being diagnosed with Mono last year. ''It gets frustrating, but that's the way it is,'' he said. At Mirasol, a steady opening round left him at 2 under through 16 holes, but the bogey-double bogey finish was painful. Bad luck played a role as well, twice hitting behind bushes from which he had to take a drop. Two weeks earlier at Tucson, he carded 10 birdies and an eagle over two days -- and finished 1 over, courtesy of double and triple bogeys. ''I usually can't make it around without a double,'' he said. 'You've got to get your game real consistent and be `on' every shot.''

I FIND IT VERY INTERESTING THAT WHILE WRITERS OPEN their stories about Ty Tryon [ recent photo] with lines like this - In a way, even though he enjoys the attention, Ty Tryon is almost relieved to be treated like every other rank-and-file pro on the practice range at the Honda Classic. - he continues to be the only 'rank-and-file' pro thats getting consistent personality pieces written about him in major publications. If, as Steve Elling puts it, the Ty-perbole has ended, then why is he still writing about him? And don't tell me its because its a local story. Orlando is a big place with lots of other local sports stories for Elling to cover instead of some 'rank-and-file' PGA Tour pro. No, despite his troubles since turning professional, there's still something about Tryon that makes people believe that he's just about to break free of this slump and start to play well. The Sun-Sentinel also has an article about Tryon from the Honda Classic. Friday, Tryon joked that to rival the tight, bright attire worn by kiddie contemporaries Charles Howell III and Aaron Baddeley, he might start sporting baggy clothes and turning his visor to the side. "Maybe I should come out and wear some really crazy stuff: ghetto golf wear," Tryon quipped. Or maybe a little anonymity is what Tryon needs. "I really didn't know it would be this hard," Tryon said. "I didn't know I could get so much better and still struggle to make the cut."

TRYON BIRDIES 3 OF HIS LAST 4 holes to get to 4-under par for the tournament with a 2nd round 67. But the cut line is moving back and forth from 4 to 5 under. UPDATE: The cut line is now at an astonishing 6-under par, so Tryon is going to miss yet another cut. 6-under to make the cut! The tour really needs to grow some rough and make these courses tougher.

MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE KEPT MY MOUTH shut until Tryon had actually finished his first round completely. With only 3 holes left (play suspended due to darkness) in his first round, Ty manged to give back everything he had earned earlier in the day with a bogey-double bogey finish and a stinky 73. He's currently back to 1-under par for the event thru 8 holes today, but the projected cut line is at 3-under and looking like it will go to -4 before the day is out.

SOMETHING WE HAVEN'T SEEN OUT OF Ty in a while is actually happening right now - a good start. Tryon is currently 2-under par thru 15 holes (T62nd) - with play suspended for the rest of the day. He's got a long way to go to make the leaderboard as 3 players already shot 9-under par 63's this morning. But, if conditions stay as they currently are, he is well within striking distance of the likely cut line of around 3 or 4 under par. A couple of encouraging signs from Ty's first day - none of his 4 birdies have come on the par 5's, so he's not getting 'cheapies'. And secondly, his driving accuracy is much improved (75%) from his previous events this year.
