THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS ASKS AN INTESTING question today - Where are the young guns on the PGA Tour. At the beginning of the year there was much media hype over all the good young talent on the tour, yet its the old farts that keep making news. Whatever happened to Sergio Garcia, Ty Tryon, David Gossett and Luke Donald, some of the youngsters who were supposed to take the tour by storm? They appear to be old news.

The easy answer is that young kids never do consistently well on the PGA Tour. The exceptions being Tiger and Jack Nicklaus and maybe a handful of other players over the past 40 years. Expecting all the young kids on tour to win multiple times just isn't realistic. Then there's this:

Of the top 11 players on the money list, four are at least 40. Tiger Woods, at 27, may be the world's best player.

May be the world's best player? May? There's no may about it. Who the heck would he give that title to otherwise? One of these beloved 40 somethings?

the article doesn't question tiger as the best, the writer meant that tiger is young and number one, but you have to go far down the money list to find another twenty-something.

12th is far? Chad Campbell's 28...and for that matter, Mike Weir's all of 31.

Maybe that "may be the world's best player" was meant in the historical sense...out of the people playing the game at this moment, I don't think you'd hear anyone argue for anyone else.

It's kind of neat to see the old guys do well. The big money has to be a strong motivating factor for them though because when a lot of them started out the $$$ were nothing like it is now thanks to Tiger.
