FINALLY! A SOLID START FOR TRYON in the BC Open. 8 birdies and no big numbers turned into a nice little 67 and a tie for 6th place after round 1. It'll be interesting to see how well he plays today considering the different type of pressure he now faces. He hasn't fared too well under the pressure of making the cut, but (granted, in limited opportunities) he has played very solid when he has gotten himself near the leaders. Here's some interview excerpts from after Ty's round:

This feels a lot better now," said Tryon, comparing this year's opening round to that of 2001. "It's been a learning experience this year. I just haven't played up to my level of ability, but today I just got out of my own way, just relaxed and hit it real good."

Tryon admits his health still isn't 100 percent, which combined with the pressure of playing well enough to keep his playing privileges on the PGA Tour, has been a hindrance in his performance.

"I just haven't been the same," Tryon said. "I'm just trying to catch up physically. This is the time of your life when you're 18 or 19, you want to be healthy. It's been depressing.

"I feel like I'm getting better, but mentally I couldn't play golf the way I (wanted)."

"Two years ago as an amateur, I just played and I didn't worry about anything," Tryon said. "I've been putting too much pressure on myself the last two years, but now I feel like I'm getting better. I feel like I'm getting to where I want to be."
