May 9, 2003

A DOUBLE BOGEY ON HIS THIRD HOLE has Tryon four back of the cut line currently. This isn't the type of start that usually leads to a score in the 60's.

UPDATE: Four birdies in round 2 were not enough to offset two double bogies as Ty finished with another 75 - missing the cut by 5 shots.

Next week, he's playing in the Deutsche Bank SAP Open in Germany. One oddity about the Deutsche Bank is that their website has a 'top player' page dedicated to Tryon. It just seems kind of silly considering the world ranking they show for him - 1239.

Heading to Europe???

It puzzles me why he would head off to Europe. The only reason possible would be to chase after the $$ they offered to get him there. How many times have we heard of pros who after winning a major, went after the money, only to lose their game. What does he really want? Or should I ask what does his father really want?

To be fair to Ty, he's clearly struggling with his game and going to Europe is a way to work out the kinks without using up the limited number of starts he is allotted this year on the PGA Tour.

It's obvious that he is stuggeling; and if that is the case why would you want to fly overseas and risk fatigue. At this point, doesn't he want to limit the variables that might effect his play? I find it hard to believe that he made the commitment for reasons other then "to work on his game."

Funny how on that "top player" page it says that this is "Tryon’s first start as a professional outside the USA" - someone didn't do their research. Ty needs all the experience he can get, he doesn't have a choice but to play through..unlike the slumping Sergio Garcia who's dropped off the face of the earth lately. That's a different story though.
