February 12, 2003

WELL, I GUESS I SPOKE TOO SOON in my previous entry. As is being discussed in the comments section by a couple of people, Tryon is no longer listed in the field for the Buick Invitational - alternate or otherwise. Since we don't know for sure, and Ty's website is of no help (what else is new), I can only speculate that he's simply withdrawn due to his poor play of late.

Remember, Ty has a limited number of events this year in which to retain his card since he's on a medical exemption - he's not allowed to enter 30-35 events. Given that, if he thinks he's in a slump (I'd agree), its probably better to work that out back home on the range than on the course, effectively wasting one of his entries.

Also, I'd expect that we won't see Ty in too many more 'top-notch' events (read: wherever Tiger plays) this year. It simply doesn't make sense for him to enter tournaments with super strong fields. He's better off playing in the BC Open, Tuscon, Greater Milwaukee type events that have weak fields but still fat purses.

Again, I don't know this for sure, but if one of Ty's handlers wants to email me (I know you read this site IMG) to get the story straight - I'd be more than happy to publish your response.

Is Ty playing in the Tucson event in two weeks?

He'd be crazy if he didn't. With the top 64 in the world playing in the Match Play, he gets a shot at a fat purse with a weak field.

BTW, it's Tucson, not Tuscon. Don't dis the Old Pueblo here. Keep up the good work.
