SCOTT BROWN HAS ISSUED SOME
predictions for the 2003 PGA Tour. Item number nine says that
Ty Tryon is at least a year away from making a major impact on the Tour. Tryon played just 14 professional rounds last year and broke 70 just one time. His parents have gone to great length to set up various safety nets around him. But he'll probably need a year of experience to really get acclimated to life on the cutthroat Tour. I think if Brown is referring to Tryon making a consistent impact on tour - he's correct; but I do think that week to week Tryon is currently playing well enough to spend some considerable time on leaderboards in the 2nd tier events on Tour.
Also, Scott Ostler from the SF Gate makes the following
astute observation about young athletes turning professional:
LeBron James, meet Shannon Uske. Shannon is a 16-year-old apprentice jockey who rode her first winner last week at Calder in Miami. I've got it figured out. When guys skip college to turn pro (James, golfer Ty Tryon), the public wrings its hands at the corruption of youth. When it's a girl (gymnastics, skating, etc.), it's cute.
