WHEN TY QUALIFIED FOR THE TOUR in December of 2001, I'm guessing he didn't think it would take 9 months for him to cash his first official paycheck. But, some shakey play mixed with a months-long illness, and thats exactly whats happened. Only one round under par - a second round 65 - was enough to get Ty to the weekend and a T41 finish. Nothing spectacular, but definately a
solid return to the Tour.
The next action for Tryon will be the Dunhill Links Championship beginning October 3rd in Europe.

ANOTHER SLOW START FOR TRYON as he bogies his first two holes of the day on the way to a
2-over round of 73 and a tie for eighty-fifth place after the first round. The good news is that the scores were high all thru the field and he'll likely only need a score of 1-under or perhaps just even par to survive to the weekend.

THE FALL SCHEDULE FOR TRYON is starting to take shape. He'll be in the field for this week's PGA Tour event in Tampa which will have a weak field because its played opposite a WGC event. Ty has also just committed to the Dunhill Links Championship in Europe played October 3rd thru 6th at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingbarns.
PGATour.com also has an article about Ty's comeback this fall that says he'll be making week-to-week decisions about what events to play, but that he'll likely participate in the Disney Golf Classic.

ANOTHER EVENT GONE, AND ANOTHER missed cut for Tryon. He followed up his horrific first round 79
with a solid 68, but it wasn't enough to survive to the weekend as he
misses the cut by 4 strokes. Some consolitation from this week - doing well wouldn't have helped him stay on the PGA Tour at all, and he did manage his first competitive sub-70 round of the year. All in all, not a bad return after months of inactivity.

AFTER ONLY GETTING TO PLAY 3 holes yesterday because of bad weather, Ty finished up his first round at the Buy.com Utah Classic in what is unfortunately becoming 'classic Tryon' style -
with a 79. He currently sits in next to last place. It could have been even worse, as Ty had to birdie the last two holes just to break 80. He'll likely need something in the neighborhood of 65 in the 2nd round just to make the cut. A tall order considering that the best 1st round score is a 67. Somehow, I doubt this is
his idea of fun.
UPDATE: Ty is making
a solid comeback in the second round and is 5-under par thru 16 holes. He likely to need to play his final two holes at 3-under par to make the cut though.

DOUG FERGUSON HAS AN ARTICLE about what Ty's
time off while sick with mono were like. His suddently free time was spent
...at home, watching TV, playing video games, reading, a little clubbing, hanging out with my girlfriend. Considering
who his girlfriend is, thats not a bad alternative to playing the Tour.
Tryon also reveals some of the reason that he feels he played to poorly this spring:
"I was so overwhelmed," he said. "It was a mess for me. I had a good time on the golf course, but I didn't know what to do, how it all worked. I didn't know the crowds were going to be so big." Its pretty rare for an athlete to admit to something like that.
