A RETURN DATE IS SET! Finally, after months of no information - or wrong information when it was forthcoming -
Tryon will return to action at the
Utah Classic on the Buy.com Tour starting Thursday, September 5th.
"He hasn't played in five months. It will be nice to get his feet wet and get inside the ropes again," agent Jay Danzi of IMG said Wednesday.

IN THE COMMENT SECTION OF
this entry, Dayne points out that
Ty has been invited to participate in the ADT Skills Challenge later this fall. I'd be shocked if he didn't accept the invitation. Its not as if this event is physically taxing if he's still ailing from mono; and I beleive he'll be under pressure from Callaway to make a public appearance (they aren't paying him all that cash so he can lay on the couch all day).
That said, he didn't play in the Reno/Tahoe event, and isn't in the field for the
Air Canada Championship this week either, so I think he's still not physically healthy.
UPDATE: The ADT Skills Challenge will be held November 18th and 19th in Boca Raton, Florida

WHEN YOU'VE BEEN OFF THE TOUR since spring with an illness, no news is bad news, but
bad news is even worse [thanks Todd]. Jay Danzi (Ty's agent) had this to say at the PGA Championship (he's there, Ty's not):
There's nothing really new to report. We're still trying to get him well so he can go out and sort of start over." I'm beginning to wonder if we'll see much of Tryon the rest of this year at all - and it may not be that he's sick.
Follow along here. The original statements that he'd be back in action by the end of July were made in mid June (
here being the 1st mention I could find). After those statements, the tour granted him a
medical exemption on July 5th giving him 23 tournaments over the rest of this year and next to earn about $450,000 to keep his card. I'm thinking this delayed return isn't due to sickness at all, but rather a calculated move to get Tryon into the weakest field tournaments possible where he's most likely to cash a big check.
Beginning next week, there is a string of 2nd tier events:
Reno is being played opposite a World Golf Championship event,
Tampa is opposite another World Golf Championship event,
Texas is opposite the Ryder Cup, and then the
Southern Farm is opposite the Tour Championship.
If he skips Reno, I'd say he's truly still struggling with the mono. If he shows up, then the past month of down time was probably a calculated move to give him the best chance of retaining his card.
