DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS about golfers these days, but now Tiger Woods has a Swedish model for a girlfriend - Elin Nordegren. Added to Ty's Elite Model girlfriend Lauren Bedford [see photo] there seems to be quite a trend of golfers and models hooking up. It won't be considered a definate movement until Tim Herron gets himself a model for a girlfriend - and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen. SIDE NOTE: For being a model, it was amazingly difficult to find a picture of Ms. Bedford on the internet. Very odd.

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY SLIPS BY AS Ty fails to make the cut at Bay Hill. After last week's tournament I wondered whether Tryon would be mocked or ignored if his poor play continued - it seems mocked is winning out so far. You couldn't exactly hear the snickering as Ty Tryon walked off the course, but it was there. He's even got a nickname that the tour caddies have given to him - Keep. As in Keep Tryon. The article I've linked to by David Whitley shows great restraint in not jumping down Ty's throat and calling his adventure on the PGA Tour a mistake. The comparisons to Justin Rose and Matt Kuchar are only now starting to appear, and it can't be a good thing for Ty's psyche. Hopefully his family and managers aren't letting him read his own press.

IT TOOK A COUPLE OF MORE WEEKS THAN I expected, but TyTryon.com has finally been re-opened with a completely new look and a lot more information. The most interesting part to me will be his journal, which ought to give us some inside information on what is actually going thru his head as the year progresses. Overall, its a nice improvement - but could be improved further by linking to this site. ;)

TRYON CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE WITH an opening round 75 at the Bay Hill Invitational and sits in 88th place - 8 shots back of the lead.
He is off to a good start in the second round however, with two birdies over the opening four holes to get back to 1-over-par for the tournament, and is currently in position to make the cut.

READER TODD MCGILLIVRAY SENT IN AN article that appears to confirm that Ty will be playing in the Deutsche Bank SAP Open beginning May 17th. John Daly and Tiger Woods will also be in the field according to the article. The official website for the tournament mentions both Daly & Woods but doesn't yet include any mention of Tryon's presence in the event.

ITS SUPRISING TO ME THAT THE media has given Ty a relatively easy ride so far given his complete lack of success on the PGA Tour. Starting on Thursday, Tryon begins play at the Bay Hill Inviational - Arnold Palmer's tournament. If ever the honeymoon was to end beteween Tryon and the media, this might be the week because of the large number of media that will be present. Most of the worlds best players will be on hand, and because of Palmer's involvement, Bay Hill is one of The Golf Channel's featured events. If he can play well, the 'hype' will swell back up to where it was in January; but if he struggles - he'll either be mocked, or ignored.

FIRST ROUND PLAY AT THE HONDA Classic is finally underway, and Tryon finally managed to card his first round under par this year with a 1-under 71. He currently sits in 70th place and is probably going to need to shoot 2-under or better in the second round to make the cut.
UPDATE #1: With 8 holes left in his second round, Ty is 3-under for the tournament and in 44th place.
UPDATE #2: Play has been suspended due to darkness, and Ty is going to miss the cut. After getting to 3-under for the tournament, he promptly made 4 consecutive bogies and sits three shots shy of the cut line with two holes to play.

FIRST ROUND TEE TIME for Ty at the Honda Classic on Thursday is 1:09PM Eastern time. Having seen this tournament on TV for the past decade or so, I think that is a pretty tough starting time as the wind usually blows like crazy in the afternoons on this golf course. The bright side is that if he can shoot a decent round, he'll be in good shape for a low round Friday morning before the winds kick up. UPDATE: 1st round play has been moved back to Friday morning because of bad weather.
There is also another personality article out that has a few new quotes from Ty, but little new information beyond that. If Ty plays well, you can look for some insightful articles at FloridaSwing.com

GOLF DIGEST HAS TY TRYON'S SWING broken down in 14 frames in their latest issue. There are also 2 videos of his swing up at their website from two different directions. His swing reminds me alot of Michael Campbell's, with the exception that Ty has much more torque in his followthru.

I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO THINK OF this story. Apparently, Ty played in the Monday qualifier at the Nissan Open (eventually won by Len Mattice), but failed to qualify after shooting 77 and not even bothering to turn in his scorecard. Nobody has heard of it because apparently he entered the event under his given name - William Tryon - and used his agent's address instead of his own. My gut reaction is that he did this to try and avoid negative publicity from a potentially bad round. But the last thing he needs to do is get the press thinking of him as adversarial - they can make his life hell if that happens.

WELL, NOT ONLY DID TRYON NOT get that final birdie, he made 3 bogies and a double in his last 7 holes to drop all the way to T131 and +6 for the tournament. Not exactly an improvement over his previous outing this year at the Phoenix Open. The good news is that Ty is in the field for each of the next two weeks, Honda Classic & Bay Hill, so maybe he can get into some kind of rhythm and start playing better.

ROUND 2 OF THE GENUITY CHAMPIONSHIP starts at 1:19 PM Eastern time today for Tryon. With play already started early this morning, Ty has moved up slightly in the standings and is currently only 2 shots outside the projected cut line. The Golf Channel mentioned last night that the afternoon scores were much better on day 1 than were the morning rounds (which included Tryon), so perhaps he'll get the better end of the weather stick today and have some ideal conditions to play in.
Even par thru 10 holes, Ty sits in 85th place, and is only 1 shot away from the cut line. He's still going to need at least one more birdie to survive to the weekend.
Also, 12-year-old Michelle Wie is playing in the LPGA tournament in Hawaii this week. She was unable to finish her round because of darkness yesterday, but is currently 2-over par after 17 holes and in 71st place. She's 12!
