July 6, 2002

IN WHAT HAS TO BE CONSIDERED THE best news Tryon has had since Q-School, the PGA Tour has granted him a medical exemption for the 2003 season. If he plays in, say, 10 more tournaments this year and fails to finish in the top 125, Tryon will be exempt for 13 events in '03. If his earnings for those 23 starts exceed that of the 125th player on this year's money list, he'll retain full-time playing status throughout next season. Basically, the kid has 23 tournaments to make about $450,000.

He's currently not in the field for the tournament I thought he'd make it back off the DL for - The Milwaukee Open (sorry Dayne), but this article does mention the BC Open (no field info yet available), which is played the same week as the British Open. Ty finished T37 in last year's BC Open as an amateur.
