GOLFWEEK CHIMES IN on Ty's 1st stage qualifyer performance: "If Ty Tryon didn't quiet some of his naysayers Friday at WorldWoods Golf Club’s Rolling Oaks Course, then he never will." Thats the opening sentence in GolfWeek's Tryon quiets critics, aces 1st stage exam article. I don't really agree with that statement though. There's just no way to eliminate all the doubters out there. Even if Ty qualifies for the tour, some (probably many) will say its still a waste and a bad idea unless he has an extreme amount of success immediately. Simply qualifying won't be enough to 'justify' his decision to turn professional to many people. Ty's first stage performance is also noted in the Orlando Sentinel.

TY FINISHES OFF VICTORY at the PGA Tour 1st Round Qualifier tournament at WorldWoods Golf Club. Medalist honors guarantees Ty the choice of his next qualifying tournament - which will no doubt be at Orlando's Orange County National on November 13-16th. "It's big," he (Tryon) said. "I can see my house from there. I play there all the time." And as for the pressure of trying to qualify as a highschooler? "It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I hope this is the last time," Tryon said. "I hope I get through this time. I hope I get all the way through. That would be great."

TRYON TAKES THE LEAD. Carding a day's best of 66, Ty moved from T7 to T1 after three days of the first round PGA Tour Qualifier tournament at WorldWoods Golf Club in Brookville, Florida. With one round to go, Ty is 6 shots clear of the 'cut line' which will see only the top 21 and ties avance to the second round of qualifying. Ty seems to be doing just fine despite not having the "charisma of (Matt) Kuchar, or the game of (Charles)Howell" as Tim Rosaforte recently mused.

TRYON GETS OFF TO a good start at the PGA Tour Qualifier tourney, following up a five under par 67 in the first round with a solid 70 in round number two to share 7th place. The top 21 and ties advance to the 2nd stage qualifier. Ty is also gets a short mention in this UK round-up of qualifier action.

TIM ROSAFORTE USES MATT KUCHAR'S recent good play (he earned exempt status on the tour using only sponsors exemptions) to pile on Ty for choosing a different road than Matt - the tour rather than college. "Tryon doesn't have the charisma of Kuchar, or the game of (Charles)Howell, and could be in for a long road. I'm not sure what the relevance of Tryon or Kuchar's charisma is to their success on the tour.

THE FOLKS AT GOLF DIGEST make the observations that the golf gods only grant stars a limited amount of time in the spotlight [6-8 years]; the only question is when they get that spotlight. And that when a player turns professional at an early age, he gets old [in the golf ability sense] at an early age too. "Among prominent players who turned professional as teenagers, the longest span between the first major and the last was nine years by Ballesteros, but he was only 31 when he claimed his final major." The six players they base this on [and the age they turned pro] are: Nick Faldo [18], Seve Ballesteros [17], Bernhard Langer [15], Sandy Lyle [19], J.M. Olazábal [19].
