ADD A FEW MORE DOUBTERS to the list. Roger Maltbie thinks Ty's turning pro is a mistake, and Vijay Singh said: "It's not going to be easy. He's not going to be playing against kids." Somebody needs to tell Vijay that the PGA QSchool hasn't been full of 'kids' since, well ... ever. And last I checked, Vijay's been getting his butt kicked by some kid named Tiger since 1996 - oh how quickly he's forgotten. My favorite comment comes from Matt Gogel: "He (Tryon) is going to embrace it (media attention) at first," Gogel predicts, "then he's going to shoot 78 and wonder why everyone wants to talk to him. He's going to have so much more attention than he's ever had. Is he too young to handle it? We'll find out."

I went to college with Gogel and as such have followed his career pretty closely since then. Gogel is of course convinced that Tryon is less like Tiger Woods, and more like himself (4 rounds over 78 this year, including two rounds of 81, and 12 missed cuts) than the facts support. Tiger didn't come out of the gate shooting 78s, and neither did Sergio Garcia or Charles Howell. But its exactly this condesending attitude towards Tryon's ability that will give him a huge edge next year as players continue to underestimate his abilities.
