Hell Ride Taking A Beating

The reviews for Hell Ride (a Quentin Tarantino Presents... film) are not good so far.

Hell Ride is authentic in its neo-mystical flashbacks, its attempted mythic connection with the outlaw tradition and its excesses - violence and nudity. It's also pretty much plotless, with story lapses that have people recovering from an arrow to the chest, torturing and executing bit players for crimes we haven't seen them commit, all in a world with no cops.

The acting is bad enough that when a decent player has a scene, you notice how awful everyone else is. The dialogue is laughably arch and repetitive.

Inglorious Bastards Pissing Off European Critics

Uh-oh, the Germans are angry with Tarantino about Inglorious Bastards.

Should Quentin be banned from making a movie dealing with the holocaust.

And more hand-wringing about the script and an insane comment that "Tarantino was attempting to upstage Tom Cruise's controversial film Valkyrie."

Mike Myers Added To Bastards

This one's a head-scratcher - Mike Myers has been cast in Inglorious Bastards [thanks Saiaf]. He'll play a British military mastermind who hatches a plot to kill Nazi leaders. Well, at least he isn't playing 'Fat Bastard'.

I'm getting a little concerned about the cast so far. I'm sure QT will be able to pull this together, but it seems more like the cast of a WW2 spoof movie than I would expect.

Adam Sandler Out Of Inglorious Bastards

One of the earliest casting rumors for Inglorious Bastards was Adam Sandler - way back in 2003, but it seems that Quentin's rush to get this movie completed has conflicted with Sandler's schedule and he won't be a part of the project.

Yeah it's true. It is, and I read the script, it's fantastic. But I'm shooting at the very same time. I won't be able to do it. I'm doing a movie with Judd Apatow at the same time so that's not going to happen, but I did read it. It is awesome."

Britney Spears In Faster Pussycat

I'm not sure how much I believe what I'm reading about Tarantino's pending re-make of Faster Pussycat. Considering that he has to be up to his ears with work to get Inglorious Bastards finished by his self-imposed deadline of Cannes 2009 - I have a hard time believing he's spending additional time casting for Pussycat.

So that said, its being reported that Britney Spears has been added to the cast.

Spears' character murders the boyfriend with her bare hands before taking the girlfriend hostage. The troubled singer will also have sex scenes with another girl before the drama ends in a blood-bath.

Tarantino's Mind

A video short - Tarantino's Mind. Good little film - although there shouldn't be anything new in this for the hardcore fans, but those new to QT's films will find it enlightening.

Inglorious Bastards (1977) DVD Special Edition

The original Inglorious Bastards film that provided Quentin his inspiration for his upcoming film of the same name is being re-released on DVD in two versions - a standard DVD release and a 3 disc special edition.

In the hour-plus making-of featurette on disc two, skip past the first 40 minutes of rusty remembrances to get to how special effects guru Gino "Bombardone" De Rossi built balsa-wood artillery after the Italian police confiscated the production's dummy guns. (Also good: behind-the-scenes footage of the explosive bridge and train station set pieces.) According to De Rossi, the film called for more than 450 pounds of gunpowder, which explains how pyrotechnics remained fresh even as the military vehicles and stuntmen were recycled from shot to shot.

But the main attraction is certainly the dynamic between Tarantino and Castellari, mutually starstruck as the younger director teases his next feature ("I realized it's like two movies, and so the first one is what I'm doing now") and debates whether to co-opt his idol's love for slow-motion action sequences.

Big Stars For Inglorious Bastards?

I'm way behind on posting news, but just noticed this JoBlo story about the possible casting of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Inglorious Bastards. Those really don't seem like Tarantino guys, though I think Pitt would do great with some snappy dialogue.

The Tarantino Murders?

Thats the headline on Drudge right now. Why is it that whenever there is a brutal murder in Europe, the media or the police always seem to drag Quentin Tarantino's name into it?

One detective compared the killings to a Quentin Tarantino film.

He said: "The scale of the violence is extraordinary. This was like a scene from a Tarantino gangster film but these men were not criminals. These were two talented and innocent men who had no history of criminality."

UPDATE: The Tarantino reference has been scrubbed from this article (the quote above was in the piece originally). But not all traces of connection to QT has been removed, the URL of the article still has his name in it.
