Choke At Sundance

The Choke film is going to premiere at Sundance! Sam Rockwell was a great choice for this role, I hope the film is as true to the novel as Fight Club was.

Previously: Madonna, A Survivor?, Copycatting A Book, Choke Update

Fred Thompson's Tax Plan

Fred Thompson laid out his tax plan, and I'm liking it. The bottom line is lower taxes with a simplified tax structure to make everything easier to understand.

Even if Fred doesn't get the nomination, here's hoping that the other candidates cherry pick this idea from Fred.

Thats Not Metal

Dave Mustaine - of Megadeth - has released his own blend of coffee. Yeah, really. You can order it here.

I have personally selected this coffee from thousands available worldwide. It is by far the best tasting coffee I have ever come across. This is the coffee that gets me up in the morning and keeps me shreddin' all day long. My coffee is grown by very small-scale farmers who practice age-old organic farming methods.

I don't care if Dethklok is doing a Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle, this is just not metal.

Worst Global Warming Argument Ever

This is the dumbest smart argument I think I've ever seen. This guy tries to apply Pascal's Wager to global warming. Basically, whats the cost of action or inaction given that we can't know for sure whether human caused global warming is real and controllable.

The trouble with Pascal's wager is that it will almost always lead you to the conclusion that we should do what the 'alarmists' say - whatever that may be in a particular instance.

For example, apply Pascal's Wager to the 'news' today that wi-fi causes autism in kids. Now, since we have to concede that this 'scientist' might be correct (highly doubtful, but possible), the question is one of action or inaction.

If we take action and eliminate wi-fi in households with children - whats the downside if the 'science' turns out to be incorrect? A little inconvenience of being tied to a wall for a connection. Not really much to complain about in the overall scheme of things.

So what if we take no action and the science turns out to be correct? The downside is that we've got an 'epidemic' of autistic kids unable to function as fully productive members of society. That seems a pretty severe consequence, thus we should eliminate wi-fi that kids will be present - just in case this guy is correct.

Try it with any of these types of gloom & doom news stories - the answer is always the same using Pascal's Wager.

Good Music Promotion

TAGS: ,

This is a great way to promote a music CD on the web. Let people play all the tracks from the album, and give them a chance to buy the album along the way. The only thing I'd change is to let people buy the individual tracks as well.

Mr. Bean Saves Canada

Canadian 'hate speech' laws are tilting so far to the left that its taking Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) to stand up for freedom of speech.

"The devil, as always, will be in the detail but the casual ease which some people move from finding something offensive to wishing to declare it criminal - and are then able to find factions within government to aid their ambitions - is truly depressing."
