Knee Update, No Surgery For Now

So I went to the specialist last Monday, and he says that I don't need surgery (at least yet). I've got a different knee brace now (pictured) that is actually a 'post operative' model, but the other brace was so uncomfortable that it was painful. This brace is much more comfortable - and as a result I wear it more often.

Supposedly, my ligaments and tendons will heal over the next month or so, and then it will be a matter of whether my meniscus is OK. If my knee locks up in certain positions, or if I have a click in my knee, surgery will then likely be necessary.

I can't wait to get this thing off my leg though. Stacy measured my thighs this weekend, and I've already lost 1.5" off my injured leg around the thigh. Another month and I'm really going to look freakish with my one skinny leg once the brace comes off.

GPS For Sex Offenders

The State of Florida is proposing some revisions in the way sex offenders are treated in the criminal justice system. Anyone found guilty of a sex crime against a kid 12 or under would automatically get 25 to life, and if they served less than life, they would be required to wear a GPS once released.

I don't like that idea. If Florida wants to decide that its too risky to ever release a child sex offender back into the general public, then they should keep them locked up. Making it easier to track them down after they offend again isn't my idea of a good solution.

Knee Update

Got the results back from my MRI, and in addition to the torn MCL I also have a torn meniscus, a small tear in my ACL, and some other tendon on the inside of my knee is also torn (the nurse telling me this over the phone didn't even know how to pronounce it).

I meet with a specialist on Monday afternoon to see if I need surgery or whether I'll be lucky enough to avoid it. I'm not sure which it'll be - the list of injuries sounds bad enough that it seems necessary, but I'm in very little pain and my knee has improved a ton over the past few days.

MSN Spaces Flops

Its no wonder that MSN Spaces (Microsoft's attempt to create a weblog community) has failed so miserably when their code of conduct is so restrictive. Much of it is standard stuff - no child porn, no hate sites, etc. But banning profanity - and banning even linking to a site that contains profanity? I think thats going a bit too far.

Sunday Fishing Report

Its tough to tell from the first picture below, but my right knee is about twice the size of the left. This being due to at least a partial tear in my MCL suffered while fishing on Sunday. Yes, I blew out my knee fishing. And I didn't catch any fish either.

While retreiving a stuck lure from a tree, I had my left foot on the boat and my right on a log. When I went to push off the log to get back onto the boat, the bark ripped away, my right foot moved away from the boat, and my knee snapped.

Went to the emergency room on Sunday night and had an x-ray (nothing broken) and am seeing my regular doc tomorrow to evaluate whether it will require surgery to fix.

Saturday Fishing Report

Went fishing today over near Howard, KS. The water temperature is still really cool here, fish aren't spawning yet so they aren't terribly active. I still managed to catch 11 fish in about 4 hours on the water.

1 on a blue Yum Wooly Hawgtail

1 on a firetiger Timbertiger crank

7 on a 3/8 oz chartruse spinnerbait w/ gold willowleaf blades.

2 on a mulberry Tiki Crawdude
