Iraqi Prisoner Mistreatment
Roosh has a link to the pictures of Iraqi prisoner abuse by US Soldiers. Needless to say, that kind of crap needs to be heavily punished, and anything remotely like it stopped. We've got enough problems convincing the Arab world of our intentions, without this kind of behavior.

Kerry Website Scrambling
The Kerry website is tweaking its D-Bunker thread about his military medals because of the ABC video thats to air on Monday. The original D-Bunker article is here via Google's cache.
Notice the current 'Right Wing Fiction' is John Kerry lied about throwing his medals during a Vietnam War protest. The ABC video on Monday will prove this 'fiction' to be a truth, so look for this Kerry explanation to be altered yet again.
UPDATE: Kerry responds on GMA. His reply hinges on his distinction between ribbons and medals that he thinks was clear, but nobody else reported back at the time. Gibson nails him w/ the last question - which he never answers:
UPDATE #2: The NY Times and the LA Times are both misrepresenting Kerry's miltary dates of service, for some unknown reason. Incompetance perhaps?
UPDATE #3: I'm bring some of my comments from this thread (see comment 4) up to here because they help further explain my position here:

GIBSON: let me ask you, too, about two other things that you have said. subsequent to that. 1985, you said to ""the washington post,"" it is such a personal thing i did no want to throw my medals away. then 1996, you said to the ""boston globe,"" i didn't bring my own medals to throw because i didn't have time to go home and get them. which one was it?

UPDATE #3: I'm bring some of my comments from this thread (see comment 4) up to here because they help further explain my position here:
I'll agree, there would be nothing dishonorable about throwing away the medals. But there is something dishonorable about misleading the public in 1971 as to what you did, and then years later claiming he "never ever implied that I did it" all the while blaming Republicans for circulating a myth. A myth that turns out to be of his own creation.

More Kerry Troubles
Kerry's got troubles come Monday morning. ABC is going to air a video where he claims to have thrown away his Vietnam War medals. The same medals he told the Boston Globe in 1984 that he did not throw away. The same medals that he told ABC in December:
I'm proud of my medals. I always was proud of them.I sense another 'I voted for the $87 million before I voted against it' moment. Perhaps, 'I threw away those medals for the cameras before deciding it was wrong and retrieving them after the cameras left'.

Kerry's Troubles
Kerry continues to trip over himself everytime Bush leaves an opening. With all the trouble in Iraq, and Bush's poor performance at the recent press conference, I figured we'd be getting a heavy dose of Kerry to capitalize on the opportunity. Instead, he goes on Meet The Press and lies/misstates/flipflops on his military records.
Kerry, in an interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet The Press," was asked whether he would follow President Bush's example and release all of his military records. "I have," Kerry said. "I've shown them -- they're available for you to come and look at." He added that "people can come and see them at headquarters."Bush has a history of saying he's not going to release certain documents, and then he ends up releasing them. Thats irritating enough, but promising the public something, and then snatching it back before they get it seems worse.
But when a reporter showed up yesterday morning to review the documents, the campaign staff declined, saying all requests must go through the press spokesman, Michael Meehan. Late yesterday, Meehan said the only records available would be those already released to this newspaper.

Reworking The Bush Cabinet
Powell in hot water over Woodward book. It'll be interesting to see what kind of cabinet changes Bush makes/proposes/hints at over the next few months are the election cycle heats up. Based on this story, I wouldn't be suprised to see Colin Powell resign - which would be a political disaster for Bush. I'd like to see Bush replace Cheney as VP and Ashcroft as Attorney General. Both are little more than political liabilities at this point.

Bush Apologizes
He wouldn't give it to the media last night apparently (I didn't watch), but today Bush has apologized for mistakes made during his term. Here's one:
In hindsight, it appears that I was premature in declaring an end to major combat operations in Iraq. I thought we had toppled the dictator. But as long as vermin like al-Sadr seek to glorify themselves, using false religion to oppress the people, the dictator lives on. He lives on in the hearts of the radical clerics who killed and then mutilated the bodies of Americans as surely as if their own hands were stained black from the charred flesh. I'm sorry that my statement caused some to believe that the war in Iraq had ended. It has continued for more than a decade and will not end until evil men like al-Sadr are purged and the cowl of fear is lifted from the face of the Iraqi people."Go read the rest.

Inside Ernie Els' Head
Ernie Els has already posted a weblog entry about his experience at the Masters this year. Its alot more text than I would have expected, but here's bottom line:
All in all, Id say it was the best back nine Ive ever played in my 11 years at the Masters. I felt like Id given it everything. Now I had the agonising wait to see how Phil would finish. I knew by then that hed birdied the 16th to tie me at eight under par. I sat behind the green for a few minutes, but then decided it was best if I went off to the practice green and hit a few putts. I just wanted to gather my thoughts and get myself mentally prepared for a possible playoff.
The putting green is not far from the 18th green and I knew Phil had hit a good shot into 18, just from the gallerys reaction. Then a few minutes later I heard a huge cheer and I knew hed holed for a birdie to beat me by won. That split-second moment when you know its over is a horrible feeling; it mentally knocks the stuffing out of you a bit, to be honest. But what can you do? I had a feeling it was going to be my week and overall I played well. But Phil beat me. Thats how it goes. Im sure in a couple of days Ill reflect on the week and be able to take a lot of positives from the way I played.

A Lookback At The Masters
Well, well ... Phil Mickelson won The Masters. I really didn't think he had it in him - and thru the first 10 holes, it didn't look like he did. What a great finish though. Some additional thoughts:
Did that monkey on Mickelson's back get a little green jacket too?
Has Tiger Woods called Butch Harmon yet? Did the telecasters ever mention that Tiger vomited near the 1st green on Sunday? I didn't hear it mentioned.
Could Sergio Garcia have been any more disinterested in being interviewed by Dick Enberg after his round? If you saw The Golf Channel's evening coverage, you saw that Garcia has some serious issues right now, telling Kelly Tilhman to 'Make sure you remind everybody what Tiger shot'. If he doesn't win something soon, he's going to morph into this generation's Colin Montgomerie.
With a strong 2nd half of the season, and continued Tiger struggles, how long till Phil takes over as #1 in the world rankings? (He'll probably need another major this year, or 5-6 more wins).
Who's left now as the 'best player never to win a major'?

ABC v. Drudge
ABC News is challenging The Drudge Report and created a breaking news page.
Drudge's site - ugly as it is - is perfect for presenting breaking news. Not alot of text for each story, various font sizes and colors for attracting attention - all very basic, but very effective.
The ABC site just runs all the stories together with just a bullet point separating each with smallish fonts and line heights that are way too short. That style is impossible to read quickly or to scan for new info if you are a returning visitor. Plus, of the 11 items in their 'Noted Now' section, only 3 of them have links to a story - and 1 of the links is in an entirely different format than the others. Not to mention how far down the page you have to scan before the actual content starts.
Some of you are currently using a certain other Web site as your homepage because you are under the misguided impression that it is the best place for BREAKING news and DEVELOPING stories that are IMPACTING now.Thats all well and good, but as it currently stands, they've got no chance in hell of overtaking - or even denting - Drudge's chokehold on the breaking news position. The ABC site's biggest problem currently is its design.
But given that elsewhere the focus is often entertainment news or earthquakes (geological ones, not geopolitical ones), we bet that a lot of you in this presidential year would like a one-stop shopping place to go to get all the information on the election -- faster than the AP (Sorry, Fournier.), more colorful than cable, and more direct than calling Howard Fineman.

Its Masters week again. And for the 1st time in many years, I do not expect Tiger Woods to win. I also don't think any of the other big names (Els, Love, Singh, Mickelson) will win this week either. Even though Martha Burk and her gang of activists aren't around this year, the Masters will still be commercial free on TV.

Kos Hits Bottom, Gets Bigger Shovel
Feeling the heat (see original post), Kos backtracks in classic John Kerry style. I really did feel something for those dead americans before I rhetorically spit on their graves.
Of course, this retraction (sort of) only comes after his original bile has been sent tumbling conveniently down the memory hole (screenshot of post).
I also quite enjoy him admitting that he lies to his readers:
And even if you do believe it, is it any better than his previous position. That somehow these folks deaths aren't important or aren't worthy of mourning and compassion because they left their families behind and volunteered to be there? Because they are paid better than actual miltiary folks?
Absolutely disgusting. I'm almost stunned that he would be smart enough to figure out that the 1st post was over the top, yet stupid enough to turn around and write something so idiotic.

I also quite enjoy him admitting that he lies to his readers:
My language was harsh, and, in reality, not true. Fact is, I did feel something. That's why I was so angry. - KosBut, as Oliver says, Its not the crime, its the coverup.
I was angry that five soldiers -- the real heroes in my mind -- were killed the same day and got far lower billing in the newscasts. - KosDoes anybody believe that? One paragraph after admitting he lied about his own feelings, we get this. Please. The only reason these Blackwater folks got such huge media play is because of what happened to their bodies after they were killed. You know that, Kos knows that. So why's he pretending he doesn't.
And even if you do believe it, is it any better than his previous position. That somehow these folks deaths aren't important or aren't worthy of mourning and compassion because they left their families behind and volunteered to be there? Because they are paid better than actual miltiary folks?
I was angry that these mercenaries make more in a day than our brave men and women in uniform make in an entire month. I was angry that the US is funding private armies, paying them $30,000 per soldier, per month, while the Bush administration tries to cut our soldiers' hazard pay. I was angry that these mercenaries would leave their wives and children behind to enter a war zone on their own violition. - KosOur entire miltiary is made up of people who volunteered to leave behind wives/children/parents/friends to serve their country - in a war zone if need be.
Absolutely disgusting. I'm almost stunned that he would be smart enough to figure out that the 1st post was over the top, yet stupid enough to turn around and write something so idiotic.

Unpopular Speech At Schools
A middle school student who was suspended for wearing a 'Barbie is a Lesbian' t-shirt by her school has just received a nice fat $30,000 check from said school after she sued them.
Natalie Young, now 15 and in high school, wore the shirt to middle school in April 2002, leading school officials to send her home for the day despite the absence of any official dress code.Always good to see a kid fight back. I'm not a big proponent of using the legal system to fight this battle, but if its necessary to get results in individual cases I can live with it.

UPDATE: More weirdness here:
A Department of Revenue employee who called 911 Wednesday after spotting Seiler in the marshy area near the DOR building is not talking to the media, but WISC-TV in Madison confirmed more information about the 911 call. A high-level police source told WISC-TV that the DOR worker must have talked to Seiler in the marsh. Seiler allegedly told the woman she was a college student and she goes to the marsh to relax. The woman told the 911 dispatcher she also saw Seiler on Monday and Tuesday.UPDATE #2: Well, that didn't take long. Police say its all a hoax and they have video of her buying the tape, knife and rope she claims she was bound up and threatened with, plus her computer was being used while she was 'missing' as well.
