Inside Ernie Els' Head

Ernie Els has already posted a weblog entry about his experience at the Masters this year. Its alot more text than I would have expected, but here's bottom line:
All in all, Id say it was the best back nine Ive ever played in my 11 years at the Masters. I felt like Id given it everything. Now I had the agonising wait to see how Phil would finish. I knew by then that hed birdied the 16th to tie me at eight under par. I sat behind the green for a few minutes, but then decided it was best if I went off to the practice green and hit a few putts. I just wanted to gather my thoughts and get myself mentally prepared for a possible playoff.

The putting green is not far from the 18th green and I knew Phil had hit a good shot into 18, just from the gallerys reaction. Then a few minutes later I heard a huge cheer and I knew hed holed for a birdie to beat me by won. That split-second moment when you know its over is a horrible feeling; it mentally knocks the stuffing out of you a bit, to be honest. But what can you do? I had a feeling it was going to be my week and overall I played well. But Phil beat me. Thats how it goes. Im sure in a couple of days Ill reflect on the week and be able to take a lot of positives from the way I played.
