Smelly Kids To Be Suspended

Our Horrible ChildrenI thought we were on the right track to get rid of the zero-tolerance crap; but after being in New Orleans for 4 days, it looks like its having a bit of a resurgence. Zero-Tolerance Not Going Away. In fact, they are even spreading across the Atlantic into Scotland. "As a one off, swinging on a chair or dropping a pencil may seem trivial, but when these small acts accumulate it can be very disruptive to the whole class. There's something to look forward to - suspensions over dropping pencils in class.

In the mean-time, we'll just have to be amused by suspensions for smelling like smoke. If two or more people confirm that a student smells like smoke, that student will face suspension under the assumption that he or she has recently been smoking. Modoono said the smoke stench is different on someone who just smoked than it is on someone who was standing nearby. If I'm the first kid to get caught up in this dumb rule; I make the school board or principal or whomever provide a written description of the differences in the stench between the smoker and the bystander. No chance they could do it and have it stand up to any scrutiny.
